Exhibition Notes

"This series of work began as an act of acceptance and gratitude for the life I have now, after a solitary journey through what is often called 'The Dark Night of the Soul.' In the German poet Rilke's letters, solitude is symbolised by a single light of an isolated dwelling, perhaps a hermit's hut, on the distant horizon of a very dark night. The lamp that glows in the window is an image often repeated in literature.

In my art practice I am often attracted to an image without completely knowing why and it is only within the exploration of the subject that the meaning reveals itself. I am always drawn to a sense of mystery. The night, when forms are hidden, transforms the commonplace.
